VBeam®: How to Prepare and What to Expect
Port wine stains, rosacea, and spider veins are common cosmetic issues that can take a significant toll on your confidence. The state-of-the-art VBeam® laser system helps reduce or eliminate pigmented and vascular lesions by targeting darker pigments and breaking them apart, leaving you with clearer skin.
Dermatology Associates of Central NJ is a leading provider of VBeam laser therapy, adjusting every treatment to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals. In this post, our team offers a brief overview of VBeam treatment and what you can do to get ready for your session.
Getting ready for your visit
Before your actual treatment visit, you’ll come in for a consultation, so we can evaluate your skin and review your concerns and treatment goals. During this visit, we’ll ask questions about your medical history and provide you with complete directions on how to prepare for your visit.
In general, you can minimize irritation, support fast healing, and ensure optimal results by following a few simple steps prior to your VBeam treatment:
- Avoid tanning and sun exposure for two weeks prior
- If you’re on any medications or supplements, ask if they need to be discontinued
- Discontinue acne and anti-aging products for seven days prior
- Don’t exfoliate the week before treatment
- Schedule VBeam two weeks or longer following Botox® cosmetic treatment
During your consultation visit, let us know if you have a history of herpes simplex outbreaks or seizures, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have any other underlying health conditions so we can make accommodations.
VBeam treatment: What to expect
VBeam treatment is performed right in our office in about 10-15 minutes per area, with the entire length of treatment depending on how many issues we’re addressing. While most people find treatment to be comfortable, if your skin is very sensitive or if you’re very nervous, we may suggest a topical numbing cream first.
Next, we apply the targeted laser energy using the special handheld device, giving the laser time to penetrate your skin and be absorbed by the vein or lesion we’re treating. You may feel gentle warmth or a mild “snapping” sensation as the laser is absorbed.
Afterward, it’s common to have some mild redness and swelling in the treatment areas, effects that resolve soon afterward. One of the benefits of the VBeam system is its patented cooling technology that maintains skin comfort and keeps these side effects to a minimum.
Post-treatment skincare
After treatment, you’ll need to give your skin some extra pampering while it heals. That means avoiding direct sun exposure, using sunscreen on a daily basis, and slathering your skin with moisturizer. You should also use a gentle cleanser and avoid rubbing your skin.
You might have some peeling or flaking afterward, another normal effect that simply reflects your skin’s natural healing process. Our team provides complete aftercare instructions, so you can give your skin the healing support it needs for beautiful results.
If you have pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, rosacea, or if you’re simply looking for a way to rejuvenate aging skin, VBeam could be just what you’re looking for.
